How to Start a Loyalty Programme in a Hair Salon, Beauty Salon or Barber Shop

· Izabela Banachiewicz

Why loyalty matters for salons and barbers

In hair and beauty, clients usually come back every few weeks. Keeping a client for years is worth much more than winning a new one for a single visit. A loyalty programme gives clients a reason to rebook with you rather than try the new place down the road.

Health and beauty is the second most used type of loyalty scheme in the UK after supermarkets, used by 35% of people, according to a SumUp survey of 2,000 UK adults (April 2026).

Step 1: Decide what a stamp is for

Most salons give one stamp per visit or per paid treatment. With MyDigiStamp, a client can collect a maximum of one stamp per day by scanning the QR code, which keeps the card fair.

Step 2: Choose a reward clients actually want

You choose both the reward and the number of stamps. Ideas that work well:

  • Hair salon: free blow-dry or treatment after 5 visits
  • Barber: free haircut after 6 or 8 cuts, or a free beard trim
  • Beauty salon or nail bar: free brow tint, free nail art or 20% off the next treatment

Salon clients visit less often than café customers, so a shorter card of 5 to 6 stamps keeps the reward within reach.

Step 3: Make joining effortless

Put the QR code poster at the reception desk or by the mirror. Clients scan it with their phone camera while they wait – no app to download, no account to create. For clients without a smartphone, you can add them yourself in the dashboard and give stamps by name or phone number.

Step 4: Use birthdays and referrals

Salons grow through word of mouth and personal touches:

  • Birthday bonus: add a client's date of birth (the year is not needed) and on their birthday the dashboard reminds you to give them 2 bonus stamps with one tap.
  • Refer a friend: clients share their personal link, and they earn a bonus stamp when their friend makes a first visit.

Step 5: Make your card look like your salon

Upload your logo and pick your brand colour, so the card on the client's phone looks like part of your salon – not a generic app.

Step 6: Ask for reviews the right way

A "Leave us a review" button can link to your Google page. Google's rules do not allow rewards for reviews, so MyDigiStamp never gives stamps for them.

Step 7: Keep an eye on your regulars

The dashboard shows who is close to a reward, the stats page shows how many clients visited in the last 7 days, and each client's visit history shows when they were last in. That helps you notice when a regular client goes quiet.
